🌹 🎶 Our Voice, Our Planet!

Dear Friend

🌹 🎶   Our Voice, Our Planet!  🎶🌹
"The Earth's cry for rescue from the punishing weight of the industrial system we have created is our own cry for a scale and quality of life that will free us to become whole and healthy."
- The Voice of the Earth, Theodore Roszak (1933 – 2011) American academic

Our beautiful planet has a hum, an infrasound inaudible to humans.
The motions of the earth causes seismic waves, measurable by scientists and most obvious to humans when volcanoes and earthquakes erupt.  With 2023 recorded as the warmest year in history, seismologists are recording increasing intensity of ocean waves and changes in river soundscapes
 - the soundwaves of the world are talking to us.
Our voices, which exist within our seismic environment, are also expressing changes - a recent study of five genres of pop over five decades notes an increase in repetitive, personalised, negative song lyrics.

There's a great need to raise our voices mindfully, joyfully and powerfully to harmonise with people and planet
as we approach World Voice Day and Earth Day 2024.

Doing what I can do in my corner, I warmly invite you to join me at
Our Voice, Our Planet on 28th April

Here's a closer look at this year's themes for each day.

Resonate. Educate. Celebrate.

  • Resonate - our voices enable us resonate with each other - to empathically share emotions and experiences and to harmonise whilst singing.
  • Educate - the Latin word educare means to bring out/lead forth. As an instrument within our body, our voices can be drawn out in service of important ideas, principles and values.  As we recognise the vocal contribution of inspirational singers, educators, leaders and mentors, we also honour the inner teacher of the voice within each of us.
  • Celebrate - the Happy Birthday song, translated into 18 languages, is just one example of how we celebrate important milestones vocally.

Planet vs Plastics
Earth Day are campaigning for a 60% reduction of
Plastic Production by 2040 - here's why:

Solutions
"Most of these problems essentially are our own creation, therefore logically, we also have the ability to minimise these problems or in some cases overcome these problems."
Dalai Lama, Message to the Youth
* Reduce demand - consumer choices can diminish reliance on single-use plastics - eg opting for reusable coffee cups/ water bottles, shopping bags etc
*Substitute - opting for paper, glass and natural fibres alternatives
 * Increase recycling - including local refill/ zero-waste and charity shops
*Invest in the future - support eco-friendly independents, charities and organisations - eg Ecotricity
*Raising Our Voices - we can sing and/or record songs,
write blogs, letters to MPs, sign petitions -
eg Music Declares Emergency Global Plastics Treaty Client Earth
