Winter’s Invitation
Straggling skeleton arms of leafless treesÂ
Stretch towards yawning skies of silver-grey clouds,
Seemingly bereft landscapes teem with hidden life.
Hunkering down in home and hearth,
Wrapped in woolly layers to warm our bones,
We burrow deep into winter’s chilly embrace.
The wisdom of wild weather rubs us raw,
Refining and revealing our wilder selves -
Invigorating winds, cleansing rains and
Raging storms blow illusions away;
Sharp frosty days pierce the endless grey
With sparkling clarity and biting breath.
The glowering gloom can bring on murky moods
Tangling our hair with shadowy thoughts,
Yet from amidst the long night, winter’s bony fingers beckon,
Daring us to dance with the mystery of the dark,
And soar on the wings of its searing song.
