The Many Kinds of Letting Go
Some are a blessed relief and welcome release - we run towards them with open arms,
Others are enforced, leaving us bewildered as our worlds turn upside down.
Some are the result of the natural passage of time evolving through its cycles,
Others the result of wilful human intervention.
Some are prolonged, moving inexorably, like a slow ebbing tide.
Others sudden, shocking thunderbolts.
Some are protracted by our blind resistance to the truth,
Others rushed along by our impatience.
Some inhabit the hazy twilight realms of uncertainty,
Others arrive with blinding clarity.
Some come because we stood still too long
Others because we grew so fast.
Some raze all life to the ground,
Others leave a seed of hope.
Some come with a tender kiss,
Others with a sting in the tail.
Some are utterly senseless,
Others full of wisdom.
Some joyfully carefree,
Others tear soaked.
